2023 Walk for Mental Health
- by PHS
On May 31, 2023, Progressive Housing Society, in collaboration with E.C.H.O Burnaby, hosted the Walk for Mental Health at Deer Lake Park. This event marked a significant effort in raising awareness for mental health, engaging participants in an active show of support and unity. Beginning the day, a staff-led stretching session prepared attendees for the walk, emphasizing the importance of both physical and mental well-being.
Participants then embarked on a circuit around Deer Lake, an activity designed to promote health and reflection in the serene park setting. This walk symbolized a collective journey toward understanding and supporting mental health challenges, with each step reinforcing the community’s commitment to this cause.
Following the walk, a BBQ and prize giveaway provided a relaxed environment for participants to connect and share experiences. This component of the event underscored the value of community support and the positive impact of gathering for a common purpose. The prizes, generously donated by local businesses, highlighted the broader community’s involvement and support for mental health initiatives.
The partnership with E.C.H.O Burnaby for the 2023 event was instrumental in amplifying its reach and impact. By combining resources and networks, both organizations were able to create a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere for attendees, many of whom look forward to this event as an opportunity to feel connected, especially those without close family ties.
The Walk for Mental Health serves not only as an annual gathering but also as a reminder of the ongoing need for awareness, dialogue, and action in mental health. It is a testament to the power of community and the shared responsibility to foster environments that support mental well-being.
We extend our thanks to all participants, staff, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this event. Your involvement exemplifies a shared vision for a future where mental health is prioritized and supported within our community.
