2024 Mental Health BBQ

The sun was shining through the clouds, laughter filled the air, and the aroma of grilled delights wafted through the park as our Annual Mental Health BBQ unfolded on August 20, 2024. This event, a cherished tradition for our community, brought together staff, clients, and their families for a day of connection, fun, and celebration. With the weather on our side and a myriad of activities to enjoy, this year’s BBQ was nothing short of a resounding success.

One of the event’s highlights was the ever-popular dunk tank. Staff members bravely volunteered to take the plunge, much to the delight of attendees who lined up for a chance to drop staff into the water. It was all in good fun, and the cheerful shouts and splashes were a testament to the light-hearted atmosphere that defined the day.

Our photo booth was another crowd favorite, capturing the essence of the event in a series of fun and memorable snapshots. Families, friends, and even coworkers piled into the booth to capture silly moments, their laughter echoing throughout the park. These photos are sure to be cherished as a reminder of the shared joy and camaraderie of the day.

The face painting station was a vibrant hub of creativity, drawing both children and adults alike. From elegant butterflies and fierce tigers to intricate designs and whimsical characters, our talented face painter had something for everyone. It was a delight to see not just the kids but also the adults embracing the fun, their faces transformed into colorful masterpieces that added to the festive atmosphere.

Adding to the magic of the day was the balloon artist, who skillfully twisted balloons into a variety of shapes that delighted attendees of all ages. From playful animals to quirky hats, these balloon creations became instant favorites, adding another layer of fun to an already fantastic event.

Of course, no BBQ is complete without delicious food, and we were incredibly fortunate to have our meal provided by Whole Foods. Their generous donation allowed us to offer a wide array of tasty options, from classic BBQ staples to fresh, healthy alternatives. Everyone found something to enjoy, and the food played a crucial role in making the day as special as it was.

In addition to the fun and food, the event featured an exciting array of prizes, all donated by some fantastic local businesses. We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Keg, The City of Lougheed, Panago, and other generous contributors. Their donations added an extra layer of excitement to the day, with many attendees leaving with a little something extra to remember the event by.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our staff and volunteers. Their passion for our mental health program and their commitment to our clients were evident in every aspect of the day. From organizing activities to ensuring that everyone felt welcome and included, their efforts were instrumental in creating an atmosphere of warmth and community. We are incredibly grateful for their time, energy, and enthusiasm.

As we reflect on the success of this year’s BBQ, we are reminded of the importance of coming together as a community. Events like this not only provide a day of fun and relaxation but also reinforce the bonds that make our program so special. We are already looking forward to next year’s BBQ and are excited to see what new memories it will bring.

Thank you once again to everyone who attended, donated, and volunteered. Together, we made this event a true celebration of community, connection, and mental health.
