Community Open House
- by PHS
Progressive Housing Society recently had the privilege to co-host with BC Housing for a community open house, a momentous occasion that highlighted the collaboration between the Province and the city of Burnaby. This event was a pivotal step forward in our shared vision for the Supportive Housing Proposal aimed at addressing the critical need for supportive living spaces in our community. The proposed site for this transformative project is located at 3986 Norland Avenue, a parcel of land owned by the City, where plans are underway to construct a three-story building housing approximately 52 studio apartments, pending the approval of the City Council.
The vision for the Norland site is not just to provide a roof over the heads of those in need but to offer a comprehensive support system designed to foster independence and enhance the quality of life for its tenants. The proposed Supportive Housing will be a sanctuary for its residents, offering life-skills training, access to health care services, and personalized case planning. Moreover, it will provide employment planning, outreach workers, wellness checks, and referrals to community services and support groups, embodying a holistic approach to support and care.
Progressive Housing Society is poised to take on the management of this crucial initiative, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. With staff present around the clock, seven days a week, we are committed to working closely with tenants to ensure they have direct access to the support services they need. This initiative underscores our commitment, alongside BC Housing, to manage the housing project safely and responsibly, ensuring that the tenants’ wellbeing and security are prioritized.
This collaboration between Progressive Housing Society, BC Housing, and the city of Burnaby is a testament to our collective commitment to making a significant impact in the lives of individuals requiring support. By providing a stable living environment coupled with comprehensive support services, we are not just offering housing; we are facilitating pathways to independence and a better quality of life for our tenants. This project at Norland Avenue is more than a building; it’s a stepping stone towards a brighter future for many.
