Mental Health Walk 2024

On May 31, 2024, Progressive Housing Society, in partnership with E.C.H.O Burnaby, held the Walk for Mental Health at Deer Lake Park. This event was a significant step towards raising mental health awareness, engaging participants in a unified display of support.

The day started with a staff-led stretching session, preparing attendees for the walk and highlighting the importance of both physical and mental wellness. A number of participants also brought their dogs, adding to the community spirit and enthusiasm of the event.

Participants then embarked on a walk around Deer Lake, designed to promote health and reflection in the park’s peaceful setting. This activity symbolized a shared journey toward understanding and supporting mental health challenges, reinforcing the community’s commitment with every step.

After the walk, attendees enjoyed a BBQ with games and a prize giveaway, creating a relaxed space for participants to connect and share experiences. The prizes, donated by local businesses, showcased the wider community’s support for mental health initiatives.

The collaboration with E.C.H.O Burnaby was crucial in enhancing the event’s reach and impact. By pooling resources and networks, both organizations fostered an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for attendees, many of whom see this event as a chance to feel connected, especially those without close family ties.

The Walk for Mental Health is more than just an annual event; it is a reminder of the ongoing need for awareness, dialogue, and action in mental health. It demonstrates the power of community and our collective responsibility to create environments that support mental well-being.

We thank all participants, staff, and volunteers for making this event a success. Your involvement reflects our shared vision for a future where mental health is prioritized and supported in our community.
