On the memorable evening of November 7, 2019, our team had the honor of attending the Burnaby Board of Trade Business Awards Gala, a prestigious event that celebrates the outstanding achievements of businesses and organizations within the city. The night was truly exceptional for us, as we were recognized with the award for Best Non-Profit, a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team in making a positive impact in the community.
The gala took place at the Hilton Metrotown, a venue that was meticulously adorned to reflect the grandeur of the occasion. The event saw an impressive turnout, drawing a diverse array of businesses from across Burnaby, each contributing to the vibrant local economy. The atmosphere was electrifying, filled with anticipation and excitement, as the community came together to honor the achievements of its members.
The evening was made even more special by the opening ceremony, which featured a delightful surprise that captivated all in attendance. Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley took to the stage, not in his usual capacity as a public official but as a performer, sharing his musical talents with the crowd. He performed a song he had penned about life in Burnaby, aptly titled “Burnabarian.” Mayor Hurley’s ability to get everyone involved, singing along to the chorus, created a moment of unity and joy, reinforcing the sense of community that defines Burnaby.

This year for the awards, we were nominated for Burnaby’s best non-profit. We are truly honored to have been given this award. Our organization has always been client-focused. Our staff often go above and beyond to bridge the gaps and help people find the support they need. We could not do this without the support of the community as well as the support of other non-profits.
Non-profits often work closely together and the ones in the City of Burnaby are no exception. Without that cooperative network, so much of the work we do would be more difficult. The team at Progressive Housing Society also wants to thank all the other non-profits that we work with as well as our community. We could not do the work we do without your support!

The team at Progressive Housing Society works had to serve some of the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in the city. We do our best to empower our clients to live independently and well. Our staff help clients find and secure housing, get into secure shelters, get connected with counseling, get support with mental health or addiction struggles, and more!
