Norland Place Opening

Norland Place provides 52 units of supportive housing. Without the support of a number of community partners, this project would not have been possible. Over many months, many different organizations worked tirelessly to bring this dream into a reality for the City of Burnaby. Norland Place has support staff available to tenants 24/7. Each tenant has access to their own suite but also to common areas where they can have a sense of support and community.

Norland Place Opening Event

On October 25, 2019 it was a windy but beautiful day. We had a fantastic turnout for the official opening. The media, as well as many Burnaby MLAs, joined us. Our ceremony was officiated by Karen O’Shannacery from The Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby. We also had the pleasure of having several distinguished dignitaries speak to mark the occasion including Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley and Burnaby North MLA Janet Routledge.

After the official ceremony, everyone was invited inside for refreshments and a tour of the facility. The positive feedback we received from those attending and neighbors has been overwhelmingly wonderful. Not only are people excited about the project but they are also welcoming the new residents into the community. It is a positive step to help those who are struggling to connect and not just get the support they need but also to feel seen and cared for.

Creating Safer Communities

How we treat those who are marginalized and struggling says a lot about us as a society. Supportive housing like Norland Place is an important piece to creating safer and better communities. It says that we care about people and their lives and that we are strong when we band together. Find out how you can help projects like this & make a difference in your community today!
